520 3 _aThe Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (BASIL) is a project of BFAR which aims to restore the freshwater resources of the Philippines, especially the seven major lakes and six major river basins in the country. Repopulating these water bodies with indigenous species and restoring its condition would spell a difference in fisheries’ sustainability. It would conserve its biodiversity and address food sufficiency issues that would, in turn, result in the alleviation of poverty in rural areas.
