520 3 _aThe country will soon develop its first multi-indicator index to assess and monitor the conditions of wadeable streams in the Philippines and to determine taxonomy and ecology of its macroinvertebrates’ assemblages. This is made possible through a collaborative research project, “Development of the Philippine Biotic Index (PBI) to Monitor Water Quality of Wadeable Streams”. With the declining number of healthy freshwater ecosystems in the country, the study is crucial in protecting remaining water resources and restoring those that are impaired. The project also seeks to develop educational materials for capacity building and formulate policy briefs and inputs.
