520 | 3 | _aSome aspects of the biology of Salay-salay batang (Selaroides leptolepis), a common pelagic carangoid in Manila Bay, were studied from February 1981 to June 1982. The relative abundance of the species based on the total catches of the major gears used in Manila Bay, namely: gill net, medium trawl, bag net, baby purse seine/ring net, and push net, is also discussed here. Results show that the smallest fish measured was 3.0 cm and the biggest was 18.0 cm in total length; the most exploited sizes are between 10.0 cm and 15.0 cm in total length; the length and weight relationships of male and female fish did not differ much; three gonadal conditions were identified and were found to be overlapping at different length groups, Larger fishes were available regularly from the monthly catch of gill net but were caught occasionally by the other major gears. | |
