Fisearch : Official newsletter of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute Volume 3, Issue no. 1 (January - March 2021), page 4Abstract: NFRDI-FFRDC produced 515,803 common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fingerlings from its four breeding runs in 2020. Of these, 275,550 were provided to BFAR regions as seed stocks for BFAR’s BASIL (Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa) stock enhancement program. The common carp fingerlings were dispersed to BASIL sites in Cordillera Administrative Region (Magat Dam, Alfonso, Lista, Ifugao), Region III (Pampanga, Tarlac, and Bulacan) and Region IV-A (Pandin Lake, Laguna de Bay, Tadlac Lake, Rizal, and Batangas). Around 43,300 fingerlings were also dispersed for grow-out culture to 23 private fish farmers in Nagcarlan, Laguna, and Lucban, Quezon. Initial assessment of private cooperators showed that common carp possess great potential as an aquaculture commodity.
