Fisearch : Official newsletter of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute Volume 3, Issue no. 1 (January - March 2021), page 4Abstract: The Sampaloc, Talisay Producers Cooperative, a women’s group based in Barangay Sampaloc, Talisay, Batangas was identified as one of the program’s beneficiaries of Increased Fish Productivity through Technology Promotion and Provision of Agricultural Support to Fisherfolk. The group was established in 2010 with 71 members comprised of 29 males and 42 females. Majority of the members are housewives of fishermen. Their products include smoked, marinated, and bottled fish–all made to order. The group has an existing unit of smokehouse with 60-70 kg bangus capacity which is enough to meet the demands of their clients who require large quantities of the product. They produce around 50-100 packs per week for exporters and wholesalers while only 10-30 packs per week for retailers. They needed a smaller smokehouse to accommodate orders of 20 kg or less of retailers because a large smokehouse entails higher operational costs. Hence, NFRDI-FFRDC provided a smokehouse with 20 kg capacity to support this need.
